Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) has increased in incidence and severity over the past two decades. This educational activity will review  the burden of CDI on the health system and society. There are a number of clinical risk factors that can lead to the development of recurrent CDI that will be discussed. Current guideline recommendations for the treatment of first and subsequent CDI will be reviewed. The activity will conclude with a discussion of current and emerging strategies for the treatment of recurrent CDI.
