Conference Objectives

At the conclusion of this conference, attendees should be able to:

  • Describe three effective institutional strategies for improving the medication-use process.

  • Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of five methods for quantifying medication errors and adverse events in the hospital setting.

  • Describe the practical application of specific methods for measuring the performance of medication-use systems including observation technique, chart review, voluntary reporting, monitoring of practitioner interventions, and computer monitoring.

  • Assess the effectiveness of certain technologies designed to improve the safety of the medication-use process.

Continuing Education

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists is approved by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education as a provider of continuing pharmaceutical education. The program provides 12.5 hours (1.25 CEUs) of continuing education credit (program number 204-000-02-402-L04). Official certificates of continuing education will be mailed to attendees after the program.

 

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the Academy of Medicine of New Jersey (AMNJ) and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). AMNJ is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. AMNJ designates this educational activity for a maximum of 11.5 hours in category 1 credit towards the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only the hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

Contact hours have been applied for through the New Jersey State Nurses Association.
