At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

Describe epidemiologic trends that have given rise to global and national concerns regarding antimicrobial resistance.
Describe governmental actions and strategies targeting antimicrobial resistance.
Describe three antimicrobial strategies likely to result in improved cost efficiencies.
Explain how costs are likely to increase as a result of commonly observed antimicrobial-associated adverse events.
Estimate how cost of care would increase as a result of superinfection and/or infection with each of the following: multidrug resistant gram-negative bacterial infection, methicillin resistant Staph. aureus, and vancomycin-resistant enterococcus.
Describe innovative strategies for preventing and managing antimicrobial resistance.
Describe the pharmacist's role on an infection control team.
