PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Describe epidemiologic trends that have given rise to global and national concerns regarding antimicrobial resistance.
- Describe governmental actions and strategies targeting antimicrobial resistance.
- Describe three antimicrobial strategies likely to result in improved cost efficiencies.
- Explain how costs are likely to increase as a result of commonly observed antimicrobial-associated adverse events.
- Estimate how cost of care would increase as a result of superinfection and/or infection with each of the following: multidrug resistant gram-negative bacterial infection, methicillin resistant Staph. aureus, and vancomycin-resistant enterococcus.
- Describe innovative strategies for preventing and managing antimicrobial resistance.
- Describe the pharmacist's role on an infection control team.
