Program Objectives

At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

• Describe the epidemiology of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in hospitalized and at-risk patients.
• Identify risk factors and characteristics of patients who are at risk for developing VTE.
Compare and contrast the available agents that can be used for prophylaxis and treatment of VTE.
• Discuss methods for adopting, implementing, and monitoring applicable VTE prevention and treatment guidelines.
• Explain how guidelines can be used to improve patient care while controlling long-term costs.
• Explain VTE treatment strategies that can facilitate the bridging of patients from the inpatient to outpatient setting.
