Program Overview
Learn about trends in the prevalence and the clinical and economic impact of coronary heart disease (CHD), obesity, mixed dyslipidemia, and the metabolic syndrome in the United States. Current recommendations for managing obesity and mixed dyslipidemia will be reviewed briefly. Limitations of lifestyle modification and currently available anti-obesity and antilipemic drug therapies, and the mechanisms of action and possible benefits of new drug therapies in development will be discussed. Case studies will be used to illustrate the decision-making process for patients at risk for CHD because of obesity or mixed dyslipidemia.
