Using New Technology to Your Advantage in Practice

This presentation will comprehensively explore technological options and demonstrate "best-of-breed" practices using portable information technology. It will also give participants a vision of how the pieces are all in place for integrating our delivery systems and including an enterprise approach that brings patients and their caregivers into a more interactive process for participatory healthcare. These collective changes will work together to help achieve desirable outcomes in the patients you serve. This presentation will also review the current and next-generation tools that are becoming commonplace in your everyday practice no matter where you practice.

At the conclusion of this knowledge-based continuing pharmacy education activity, participants should be able to        

  • Provide an overview of the portable information appliance technologies that are currently available throughout the patient care process in general and clinical specialties in particular.
  • List at least five initiatives for improving telecommunication connectivity in work and patient care processes.
  • Describe patient engagement activities that are appropriate for an individual practice such as creating e-mail and text message communication channels with individuals and targeted patient populations.
  • Critically evaluate Web 2.0 toolsets for potential adoption in practice.

Stress Management in a Demanding Profession

New pharmacy practitioners often struggle with balancing professional goals with the equally-demanding needs of their personal lives. This presentation will teach basic strategies for dealing with stress in your work and personal life by learning how to plan, organize, prioritize and manage parts of your life as you continue in your pharmacy career. Using these techniques requires self-discipline but will help you become a more motivated and successful person in your professional and personal life.

  • Identify self-management skills and discipline techniques for effectively managing time.
